The Marvel Cinematic Universe has been known to deliver the best superhero films, even surpassing its main rival DC comics by millions. All it takes is a team of talented players who are responsible of delivering witty scripts, stunning scenes, and most importantly, memorable performances by the actors who don the villain or hero suit.
ExploreTalent is highlighting Marvel’s top players, who have managed to outshine the rest with their sheer dedication to the roles they are playing.
5 Best Performances of the Marvel Cinematic Universe
5. Scarlett Johansson as Black Widow or Natasha Romanova
No one can deny that Scarlett Johansson is naturally sexy, so it was kind of a gamble to cast her as a latex-wearing superhero without having her be seen merely as eye-candy. But as her appearances as Black Widow went on throughout the films, she proved to the world that she could hold her own in a room predominantly filled with male superheroes.
Black Widow began to emerge in Winter Soldier, as she showed both compassion and loyalty toward her comrade Steve Rogers. By the time the The Avengers series reached its second installment, audiences really got a taste of Johansson’s dramatic acting abilities as they explored more of Black Widow’s back story. Needless to say, it’s high time that Johansson’s Black Widow had her standalone Marvel movie already.
4. The Guardians of the Galaxy (Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Vin Diesel, Dave Bautista, Bradley Cooper)
The Guardians of the Galaxy squad may not be as big as the Avengers, but in terms of acting and chemistry, they manage to be one step ahead. Chris Pratt, in particular, is the perfect Starlord. He really knows how to create a flawed yet likable character. The same can be said with the rest of the cast, who all jump from comical to angry to even desperate. While Saldana, Diesel, and Bautista are amazing, extra props definitely go to Bradley Cooper, who voices the equally brass and hilarious Rocket Racoon.
3. Tom Hiddleston as Loki
Who would have thought that mischievous Norse God would rise to become one of the most iconic villains of all time? Taking the role of Loki has no doubt skyrocketed Hiddleston’s career to fame. His facial expressions, antics, and charm has even taken the spotlight from Thor (Chris Hemsworth). Hiddleston plays him with so much likability, some people even find themselves rooting for Loki instead. He isn’t just the power-hungry villain, he has an actual agenda and an actual reason for all his revenge schemes.
2. Chris Evans as Captain America
A lot of critics have agreed that the Captain America movies are always the best among Marvel films, and they have every good reason to say so. Chris Evans does the harrowing job of bringing the old soldier to life, and he does so with so much depth and emotion, audiences can be fooled to thinking that he really is a blast from the past. Captain America may be a superhero, but his flaws are openly laid out in the table as his Marvel journey continues. Nonetheless, he continues to be a top favorite on everyone’s list.
1. Robert Downey Jr. as Iron Man
Robert Downey Jr.‘s portrayal of Iron Man is so iconic, it is hard to separate the man from the suit. Tony Stark is not only the face of the Avengers but of the whole Marvel Cinematic Universe in general. Downey set the tone on how the movies were going to be, and because of his charm and veteran acting skills, he has embodied what a true superhero is really like. It also helps that Tony has so much character growth as the film progresses, but he still manages to be entertaining all throughout his run.
